Mac Rumors: iPhone 3G Store Displays, Demo Units, Apple Retail Launch [Update]

We’ve heard conflicting tidbits about existing AT&T non-iPhone customers. To avoid confusion and delays, existing AT&T customers who do not currently own an iPhone should probably go an AT&T store (not an Apple Retail Store) on launch day to upgrade to the iPhone 3G. We’ll post more updates as we hear them.

My plan is to go to the Mansfield AT&T store about 5am Friday morning. Hopefully won’t be much of a line there and I can get in and out pretty quick once they open at 8am. I’m buying two 16GB models and adding them to a new family plan so I can get them at the $299 each price. Then, over the weekend I’ll put our Blackberry’s (8300 & 8310) on eBay and Craigslist. I should be able to make close to if not more than the $350 it will cost us to cancel the two accounts. This does 3 things:

  1. Gets us new phone numbers. We’ve been talking about switching to Texas numbers since we haven’t lived in 228 for over 2 years.
  2. Puts us on plans where the cancel charge is $175 - $5 per month instead of $175 no matter what.
  3. Gets us on the iPhone upgrade cycle if new ones come out yearly. It seems like they’ll always have a path in place for people who want to upgrade.

HD DVD @ Fry’s Arlington

This was the display inside the Fry’s in Arlington, TX and people were eating it up. I need to get mine for sale on Craigslist with the Xbox player. If I could get $100 for the player and all the movies I’d be more than happy. (by jimg72)

Testicular Fracture

Chris Snyder #19 C - Arizona Diamondbacks, the story.

Jul 2
News: Snyder was placed on the 15-day DL Tuesday with a left testicular fracture and will have surgery Wednesday. Manager Bob Melvin hopes to have him back after the minimum 15 days, the Diamondbacks’ official site reports.

Testicular and fracture should never ever ever appear in the same sentence. And he’s supposed to be back in 15 days, who says baseball players aren’t tough!

Come Spring, Game On

July 1st, 2008 12:40 pm

High school star snubs NBA process by playing in Europe.

If a baseball player decides not to sign after high school, he must wait until after his junior year to turn pro once he enrolls at a four-year school.

College basketball, on the other hand, is more than happy to carry off the NBA’s little charade. Once on campus, all a one-and-done prospect has to do is pass a couple of classes in the fall. Come spring, good luck finding him for roll call.

Smith calls the idea of keeping a kid out of the draft just to fulfill the above scenario “a joke.”

He hasn’t done it yet and probably won’t, but this does point out the hypocrisy of the NCAA. The one-and-done prospects have no business even going to college. A record 10 freshman were drafted in the first round this year by the NBA.
